Admissions

How admissions works

Call, text, email, or submit a form to get in contact with our mental health treatment experts.

We work with most PPO insurance policies. We'll work quickly to verify your benefits.

Our treatment schedules vary from 3-5 days a week depending on the level of care.

We accept most private health insurance. If you’re unsure about coverage, reach out and we’ll help you figure it out.

At Texas Mental Health Services, we are committed to making quality mental health services accessible to everyone. We accept insurance plans, including Cigna, Aetna, United Health, and Anthem, and offer private pay options for those without insurance. This will all be handled throughout our admissions process. Our treatment team is here to help clients navigate insurance coverage, explore financial assistance programs, and find the best payment solutions for their needs.

Texas Mental Health Services keeps admissions simple: reach us anytime, verify insurance at no cost, complete a confidential clinical screen, and start virtual IOP or outpatient care — often within 24 hours when you are a clinical fit. This page walks through realistic timelines, what to have ready, and how same-day admission actually works.

Admissions step timeline

Times below are typical for routine adult mental-health admissions — not a guarantee for every case.

1

First contact (0–30 minutes)

Call or submit a form. An admissions specialist gathers basic information, answers questions, and screens for crisis needs. Available 24/7.

2

Insurance verification (same day)

We check benefits at no cost and explain deductible, copay, and coinsurance before you commit. Most PPO plans are reviewed the same day.

3

Clinical assessment (same day or next)

A licensed clinician reviews history, symptoms, and goals to recommend Virtual IOP, outpatient, or a referral if a higher level of care is required.

4

Begin treatment (often within 24 hours)

When clinically appropriate and benefits are clear, many clients attend a first session the same day or next business day — especially for IOP starts.

Same-day admission: how it works

Same-day admission means we prioritize completing verification and clinical screening so a first session can happen today when capacity and clinical criteria allow. It is not a promise that every caller starts group the same afternoon — acuity, licensing fit, and benefits must align.

If you call in crisis or need a higher level of care than virtual IOP (for example, inpatient or PHP), we will say so clearly and help you understand next steps. For adults who are a Virtual IOP or outpatient fit with clear benefits, same-day or next-day starts are common.

What to have ready

  • Insurance card (front/back) or self-pay preference
  • Photo ID
  • List of current medications and prescribers
  • Prior treatment history (if any) and recent hospitalizations
  • A private space and device with camera, mic, and reliable internet
  • Emergency contact and preferred session times

After you are admitted

You receive platform login guidance, a session schedule, and a named clinician contact. IOP clients typically join group the first week while individual therapy and psychiatry (if indicated) are scheduled. Outpatient clients book recurring weekly slots. Questions about levels of care can be answered before or during intake.

Admissions FAQs

When clinically appropriate and insurance (or self-pay) is cleared, we aim to complete intake and schedule a first session the same calendar day — not a guaranteed walk-in for every presentation. Crisis situations may require ER/911 pathways first.
